Schönberg spent the summer of 1930 in Lugano in the Italian part of Switzerland. “It is my usual practice to sketch or paste or cut something up before I begin to work in the morning, while I gradually concentrate on the work. […] Here we had bad weather, storms and steady rain for several days. But now it’s fine again.” (Arnold Schönberg to Alban Berg, July 25, 1930)
